Radio Show

Post by jsuber »

What do you all think about a Fishing Radio show that serves this area from 6-8 am Saturday mornings. We would get reports live on the air from Sea Hag in Steinhatchee to Presnells in Port Saint Joe. We would also have themes each week like Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Grouper. We would discuss inshore, offshore, and freshwater each week. Talk with local guides, give weather and tide information around the clock, and take calls from listeners.

I'm not from the area, but I do listen to an outdoor show up here in GA. It comes on at 5am and lasts for one hour. They give hunting and fishing reports from local guides and locals that call in. I listen every morning I'm headed to the woods or water.
I would recommend the earlier time slot.

I like the idea. I have listened to some in the past and they may still be on. Oyster Radio in Eastpoint used to do one on Saturday morning. And 620 The Team out of Tampa used to do one for a couple of hours on Saturday. They would have fishermen calling in from their boats talking about what they were targeting and would also say how the seas were and such. It was always good radio when you had to work on Saturday or if you were just doing something around the house.
If we were all crazy, Wouldn't that make us all normal.

AM 750
O'neill Williams does the show.

His show is pretty much identical to what you are describing.
Only thing wrong with his show is the one hour slot. It's hard to take calls from locals, guides, etc and have a few commercials in one hour. He always seems rushed.

I listen to the outdoor show in Jax when I'm over that way on weekends. Very informative. I think their show is about 3 hours. Talk to guides, about their trips during the week, a little tournament talk, etc.

I'd listen.

I like listened to Jack Wingate when I lived in Jawja....It would probably be hard to find people to speak on a Saturday....It would probably easier to prerecord a show and play it on a schedule...what about a webcast?

Sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe streaming audio for the folks that live too far away to listen. Kind of like what KBON does out in LA. http://www.kbon.com/support.html

It would definitely be streamed for those working on Saturdays. We did something along this format in Virginia Beach and it worked out pretty good. Some of the guide talk may have to be pre-recorded so that they can take clients out on Saturday mornings. But I know someone like Scott over at Jerry's Biat and tackle would like to call in with his reports in the morning, and some may want to listen while out on the water. That fellow on AM 750 is out of Hotlanta. If we get something going maybe we can follow it up with the Florida Sportsman Radio show in rebroadcast or synch in after the local show. I think the information could be very informative for visitors and we could go over Boat Ramp Rules each morning fro those visiting from Georgia. (HAHA)

Radio Fishing SHow

Post by Capt Reggie »

 Used to listen to "Red" Smith's show a lot here locally many years ago about fishing Lake Jackson & really loved it! Of course, it was not on long enough in the mornings to impart a lot of information. Look at what Florida Fishing Report is doing weekly on SunSport TV and set it up something like that, I think! Boy, those guys really rock. :P If someone could put together at least an hour's worth of information along the coast, it would greatly enhance fishing this area. Let's face it, there is a void oout there that needs filling. Now, who wants to step up and help make it happen?

"Good Judgement" comes from experience, ... and a lot of that..... results from "Bad Judgement".

I'm focusing on FM but the air time is a little more expensive. Which effects the sponsors more so than myself. However the coverage and clarity is a lot better.

I am looking at the Florida Fishing Report model for our area. Especially since they do little to cover our area. I mean the guy that covers this side actually lives in North Tampa, and Capt Dineen is basically out of Pensacola and Panama City so we are very much over looked. I just want to focus on our locale and cater to it, and those visiting. Hopefully I can get Jumptrout to tell us what his favorite lure is (GULP), and have Chalkey give us GPS numbers on all his favortie spots and a look at Birddogs fishing log. And most definitley we will talk about what shop can replace a footer the fastest.
