Standing in a kayak

Post by jsuber »

I got to witness how awesome the Ride 135 is this past week. Its a great kayak for those of you wanting to stand. Here is Chad Hoover taking his out for a spin at Lake Moultrie in South Carolina. Its really not that big a deal to stand in a kayak when you consider the fact that some whitewater guys are doing it on class five rapids. But as you can see, Chad is no ballerina or gymnist. He was standing around on the water at the Kayak festival on James island this past weekend and he was able to reel in another kayaker who was trying to paddle away with Chads line hooked to the back of the boat. Chad then reached down and picked up a Mad River canoe with his other hand while Steve was still trying to paddle away while hooked to Chads Striper Rod. People commented that Chad could only do that so he pulled people out of the audience that also looked a little balanced challenged. They enjoyed the ease with which they could stand and paddle. Very fun event.

The closest I've ever come to falling out of a canoe is when I stand to fish and let the boat drift into something. The boat comes to a very sudden stop. :o

Other than that, I often stand to pole or paddle, and stand to fish all the time. There's no big trick to it. :D

I've seen Bakertize stand to fish out of a 14' Redfisher. :D

Rob does that pretty good. But as you can see in the picture Chad is no gymnist. He made it olook really easy and pulled people out of the audience and they were able to do it too. I think it speaks highly of that yak, cause its not easy in the one i paddle.

That's interesting, do you have any pics of the bottom of the hull? The stability of that 'yak must be in the hull design, no? Or the design and weight. Is it significantly heavier than other 'yaks the same size?

SPONSORS: If your asking me if I'm plugging a sponsor the answer is no, I plan on using only local sponsors for the radio show because its about us here locally. I think if people don't know about budweiser and coca-cola by now then they might want to saturate the market with ads elsewhere.

The hull design is pretty cool and it does not weigh much more than my 160i. They changed it this year after the Ocean Kayak Big Game came out. Competiton brings the best of us all out. Even in the kayak world.
