Throttle dead spot

Post by CATCH 22 »

Just recently my Johnson 175 has a dead spot at/around 2000 RPM until 2500. It bogs down and conks unless I move throttle position Any of you motor Gurus out there have any ideas on what is causing this. It just started last time I took her out. Checked all plugs and compression OK. Hate to take it in during peak time, no telling when I'll get it back :smt011

Carbed or injection? If carbed, take the cover off the carbs and have something ready to cover ALL of the carb throats, crank it, rev it and cover carbs at the same time to suck the trash on through that is in the jet or jets :-D probably should change out the fuel filter also

Sounds like the highspeed jets on the carbs are dirty.

Thanks Tom & Wevans for your rapid response  I'll get some seafoam and run it awhile tommorow. If that does'nt clear it up i'll try what Wevans said wuth the cover. That won't hurt my feul pump will it ?

None at all  all your doing with what I said to do is choking the carbs, but unlike using the choke, when you put something over the carbs, they are forced to suck gas very hard through the jets and will usually clear out the debris :-D

Glad you got it fixed. I was going to suggest not putting the throttle there.
