Mexico Beach 4/29/2007

Post by Dudeman042 »

We caught these guys in the mouth of Crooked Island Sound between about 7 and 9 Sunday Morning.... After about 9, we didn't get any other hits until about noon... It seemed the spanish were hiding out in the deeper water right next to the sand bars, that is where we had the most luck. We caught all of them trolling with spoons. The biggest was a little over 21 and the smallest was about 15 inches. Caught a couple of smaller ones we didn't keep along the beach, but it was tough out there, you had to pick through the Lady Fish and Hardtails. Fun to catch, not to eat...

Nice Report..

I love to eat them Spanish. You need to bleed them immediately after they're caught, and if possible cook them the same day. :lick: :lick: :lick:

They are some good eating fish- give it a try next time.

Spoon size?

We tried the small and the medium sized ones. Most hit the medium size. But, we had the best luck slow trolling either size with a little lead before the wire leader, to hold it down (it was choppy most of the day)
