What about this GPS?

Post by mball »

I'm looking at the Garmin® eTrex Legend® Cx GPS Unit to buy. Is this a good unit and how about the blue chart america 9.0 ? (disk?)
Thanks

Some like them, some don't...I don't think that model will take Blue Charts...If you want a good hand held look at the 76CS...I have one and love it...it accepts Blue Charts

I think you are correct Chalk...I bought my Garmin hand held not long ago and I remember looking at the eTrex and I don't think it takes Blue Charts. I have the Garmin GPS76Map......I like it but I wish I had gone ahead and spent the money for the color one, I think it would have made it a little easier to read.

Careful with the color units, they are very difficult to read in bright sunlight. I took the GPS76map and the 76cs into the parking lot at boaters world and looked at both in the bright sunlight. The black and white was much easier to read. I had to hold the color at the perfect angle to read it well. Also the greyscale(76map) has a slightly larger screen although its insignificant.

I suggest taking them outside for a test run before you buy one to see what they will look like in bright sunlight. Boaters World here in Tallahassee seems to be ok with letting you do that.
