vhf radio

Post by pops »

can anyone recommend an installer for a vhf radio in my boat.
I have a problem with the radio not trransmitting correctly, dont know if its the radio, antenna, power supply or what.

the problem is that i connected the radio to my gps for the dsc feature..
with the gps turned on the radio will not transmit, but with the gps off it works fine.

Now i don't know much about VHF's, but I know a little about CB's and if that happened with a CB, I would say that with both turned on, it is not getting enough power to transmit. I know VHF's transmit a more powerful signal than a CB, so I can only assume they would also need more power than a CB to transmit. If your VHF and GPS are wired together you may need to get a bigger power supply wire, or wire them seperately....

A bad ground on either one would make it do that also.

You didn't indicate what brand of either your dealing with but my first thought would be to contact both manufacture's starting with the GPS.

Problem Sloved:
my first problem was the outboard alternator was not working, replaced it,
then replaced the fuse panel, it was a mess.....
now everything works propertly.
