??Berry Who??

Post by ak man »

Got the day off Friday so headed out of Metropolis toward Ecky Thursday night. Made it to Camilla before having to stop and get some sleep. Up around 7am, got some supplies and launched Senorita around 9:45am. Headed East and started catching some trout. Weather wasn't great, but the fishing was really good. Ended up limiting out by 4:45pm with 4 trout over 20 in. A 21", 22", 23" and 24". Sent the 21" and 23" back to make baby trout. Here is Beaze with his 23", a career best.

The 24" went almost 4 1/2 pounds and is also my biggest trout to date.

We also caught 2 little reds a couple blues and sharks. Late in the afternoon I was throwing a white Gulp jerk shad and saw something following the bait about 12 ft off the side of the boat as I retrieved. It nailed the Gulp and I set the hook...........that is when all hell broke loose, it was easily a 100-120 class tarpon :o It ripped about 10 yds of line off and then the hook pulled. It looked like a VW had been dropped next to my boat when he took off. I had to set down and take 5 before I could re-tie. I've seen quite a few tarpon out there, but never had one that close to the boat or hooked one. Got chased off the water by a rain storm, knew it was bad when I looked East and couldn't see Rock Island.

Found out about the storm Friday night and figured the tourney was cancelled. Got up early anyway and went out around 7am, it wasn't dangerous, it was just miserable. :-? Came in after about 10 casts. Laid around until 2pm and headed out a bit after BB and crew. Ended up catching 5 trout with 2 keepers out in 3.5-4 ft of water, Beaze got a 21".

Tried to get out of the wind and went shallow to catch some reds. Ended up catching 8-10, with 2 keepers, aslo got my first flounder of the year. :lick:

Figured we made out pretty good for such a nasty day and called it a little before 6pm. Another fun trip down to the flats. I got to meet a couple guys from the forum, look forward to meeting more of you in a couple weeks if I can find Jerry's. TC, wish I'da said something to you Sat morning, but you didn't look to happy sittin' in your truck there. :D
