Wakulla Weekend 6-9,10 07

Post by jsuber »

Went out of the Lighthouse with Redbelly and Popeye from FCKA in the kayaks and we headed East. First strike of the morning on a skitterwalk was about an 8-10' Shark that pummeled my bait and sent it flying in the air about 16' from the nose of my kayak. How long before the sharks figure out that the kayak contains tasty rewards and thats all they have to do is bump it too. Some cast net fishermen reported some Redfish and we went ot work and I picked up an 18" Trout. Nothing else so I moved up into the marsh and tossed a skitterwalk some more. I had something suck down the lure in 2' of water. It starting swimming to me and it was bulling the water, Bait was running on top of the water and skiitering all over the place, and then I saw that it was a 3' long Cobia. At the same time he a saw me and took off like his tail was on fire. I got to fight him for about 1 minute while he ran up into the grass. Thats where he was able to break off the leader. But it was fun. The rest of the day was a bust but lots of fun hanging out with some other kayakers and paddling around the marsh.

Sunday Talltails and myself went to Shellpoint and ended up running into Mick in his new Hobie. Talltales caught a few Redfish on livebait, and I started my day catching Bluefish. When the wind died down I started tossing topwater for Ladyfish just to get a pull around 9:00 am. Then the wind just laid down for ten or fifteen minutes. I tossed a Top Dog with Orange bottom and something sucked down the lure shortly after in landed on the Oyster bar. It was a 30" Redfish that gave and excellent fight and still I have no camera. I released it with a big old smile on my face and made another toss and WHAM! Another 30" Redfish. Both were very dark colored and beutiful to look at. Great fight.

Keep a tight line.
