I caught a pompano two weeks ago at Aucilla. I gave it to my fishing partner and when he cleaned it....he said "It sure had dark meat for a pompano. Tasted funny too".
I think now that I gave him a jack cravel....and he ate it.
They do look alike...a little. :)
I've been fishing those waters for near 50 years....and I've never seen a snook down there. :-?

Well I don't have a weird catch story but I do have a weird anchor set story. Twice I set my anchor and when I went to pull it back up to leave at the St Marks reef I got some old damn tire. I felt like I was trying to lift a treasure chest.

BAD CATCH

Post by FUTCHCAIRO »

THE CRAZIEST CATCH I HAVE HAD IN THE LAST LITTLE WHILE WAS A ALLIGATOR I CAUGHT ON TOP WATER PLUG UP NEXT TO THE GRASS AT THE MOUTH OF THE CANAL AT THE LIGHTHOUSE. THAT BUGGER REALLY CHEWED UP THE LAST DALTON SPECIAL PLUG I HAD. I DID NOT EVEN SEE HIM TIL HE CAME FLYING OUT OF THE GRASS AND HIT THE PLUG.

I caught a sea gull on top water. I was using my Skitterwalk off Piney Island and a gull flies down, hovers for a brief second and picks it up. I just let the line go slack not wanting to set the hook and he dropped it from about 15 feet. I was glad. Do you fillet gull or cut it into steaks? :lick: :lick:
