Carrabelle - 9/8 - Tourney Day

Post by caseycook »

Snatch-N-Reel and I launched and headed out into darkness on Saturday morning. We reached the mouth of the river and were met by large waves. We made the decision to tough it out and run West down Carrabelle Beach to an area where I’d caught a few fish in the last two weeks. The area we fished was approximately a one mile long grass flat with nice sandholes mixed in. We went in shallow early and threw topwaters, but the fishing was slow and the floating grass was a pain. We made our first casts at 7 a.m. and picked up our first fish at 8 a.m., a nice 18â€
Boom goes the dynamite.

We fished the same area with nowhere near the luck as you guys. We managed 2 trout that were only 14". I did manage to hook a tarpon but it was gone with the first and only jump :x We also got beat to death on the way back in. I ran about 7kts. for over an hour to get back to the mouth. I was soaked, but my brother and son stayed dry sitting in the back under the top, shielded by me & the windshield :x

Congrats on 2nd place

Good report Casey. Sounds like an area I should fish a little more.

Dolphinatic hooked a tarpoon. I landed both an 18" grouper and a 30" cobia...

We took a whooping like everyone else. Tried to find DI reef but couldn't. As I was parallell with DI and saw two cuddy cabins anchored in front me, a wet dog and wife sitting next to me, and 3'ers all around I knew I had better head back to shore if I didn't want to get into real trouble. I caught the grouper on a 3-11" drop off out in front of the Marine lab. Took the cobia out of less than 2' on a bar connected to shore in front of the lab. Caught an unbelievable # of 14" trout on the grass flats there but only managed on 16".

Tough day, but you guys did well. Congrats.
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.
