Launched the kayak at the boat ramp by the fort late Saturday afternoon. Winds weren't too bad and the sky was overcast. Paddled across and upriver on the Wakulla. Bman has been on my case about using topwater, so I had picked up a Chug Bug earlier in the day and was using it for the first time. After a couple of strikes, I can see why. Damn that is fun!!! Didn't hook anything though.

Highlight of the day was watching a porpoise chase baitfish (or something else!) in the shallows near the banks of the river. The sunset was pretty spectacular after the sun dipped below the sheet of mid-level clouds and lit it up red. Good to be back on the water.
Sunday rolled around and I had to go back out, even though the winds were stronger than Saturday. Headed down to Spring Creek with my 6-year-old son. Paddled upriver a short ways. Wind was whipping out of the NE. I kept on using topwater and my boy had a Cajun Thunder with a Gulp shrimp. No luck with the CT, and the topwater was rarely getting a hit. Decided to call it a day and on the way back in I caught my first red on the topwater. Only 17", so off it went. Of course, this delayed the "calling it a day" action for another hour. I should have realized the "blind squirrel" rule was in effect. The boy was as excited about the red as I was, so all in all, a good day.
