No New Ducks

Post by MudDucker »

Went Saturday morning to the mudhole. Seems, everybody thought the mudhole would be a good idea too. Got the ramp and two boats were blocking the ramp while their owner's took their sweet time putting their gear in. Really a comedy show. When we started out in the lake, some buffons had pulled up on a no drive dike. When I mentioned to them that the folks were pretty serious about folks not being on the dike, a young jerk says, "Well I guess you are going to turn us in...our permit number is ___". I told him no, that I wasn't a cop. Came back after hunting and this same jerk and a bud were walking up and down the dike shooting (also against the rules) at cormorants (a federally protected bird). Two older guys joined them, but never said a word to these two idiots, they just laughed at them.

Then got in a hole and only had 4 other boats set up around us. Managed to get 2 limits (my son and I), but rather than all puddle ducks, we shot a few buffies, including a great looking drake my son got.

It seems that the class of folks who duck hunt these days is going to heck. :smt011

Opening day of either season is always nuts- I usually stay at home.
I had a good day- Didn't go out till 10 and was off the water by 3.
Scouting mostly- still brought home 5.
Found some nice honey holes for next trip.

I only went because my bud and my son wanted to hunt. There was supposed to be a 4th guy who was a no show. Had I known he was gonna be a no show, I would have let my bud and my son hunt and I would have counted sheep longer. I had no confidence in their being any new birds. All of my private places are dry. There might be one exception and I'm going to check it out this week.
