This time of year which do you guys prefer to fish, low or high tide? Specifically when targeting red fish.

Moving water...Really low tides would probably be great for the deep holes in the creeks...problem is getting there without tearing up the boat or getting stuck. High tides probably spread the fish out more but at least you can get to them easier. I guess it would also be really dependent on where you're fishing. I'm alot of help.

That is the answer in my opinion. Water exchange is the key. If the water is moving the fish are usually eating. As to low tide or high tide, it is really spot specific. I have flats that fish really well on low water but terrible on high water, and vice versa. If I had to choose a single tide to fish this time of year it would be a mid morning negative low with an afternoon 2+ foot high. Also, I like to fish soft, dark bottom (think mud) flats that seem to retain heat well.
I don't fish the tidal creeks so I'll defer to Eerman and others on them.

Lately, the falling tide has been more productive. But that isnt always the case.

I agree with nole on the big mid morning to afternoon tide in the colder months. I also think this time of the year you have to use a number of tactics to see which one is effective on that particular day or tide pattern.

Thanks guys! I knew I would get some helpful information here. I'm planning to carry a couple of guys on Wednesday that haven't ever fished the flats before and I'm really hoping to show them a good time.
