Hard Labor Creek Jan 8-9th Hunt report

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

:smt007 1st I want to say my wife is the best. :smt007 Not only did she sign me up for the hunt. But I got my stand for Christmas last year(Gunslinger) and a new rifle for Christmas this year(Browning .243 A-bolt) I didn't get there on monday till 4:00 to scout and when I got to where Snuffy suggested. I met Tim and Sheldon who said that the area was pretty well covered except 1 spot and there was 1 guy in there. I set off to find him and found a spot. Did not meet him(Jacob) till the meeting and we teamed up. 1st morning I saw a nice buck but could not shoot it. The first day of the hunt they would not let you shoot a buck until you shot a doe. That afternoon I move my stand 200 yards further in and set up for the afternoon. I was 45' up and it was windy. 20 min till the end of shooting time a nice doe comes out just after the wind layed. I shot her and she piled up after running 50 yards. I looked back and there was another doe standing there. I shot it and it dropped. Luckily Sheldon had a cart(since I was a 1/2 mile in) he let me and Jacob borrow to get them out. The next morning just after getting in the stand the bottom fell out and I got drenched. At 7:30 I saw a nice buck at 200 yards. i pulled up myy rifle and it was fogged from the rain. I wiped it but then the buck was gone. At 8:00 I saw another buck came out working his way towards me and I shot him in the neck at 150 yards. It was an awesome trip. Thanks again Snuffy for the tip. Thanks to Jacob for the help hauling. Thanks to Tim for helping me fieldress them and hauling. And thanks to Sheldon for use of the cart. I can say everyone arround me was spread out and courtious of everyone else. It was a great time. :-D :-D :-D

:-D I actually had 2 in the freezer already so I gave 2 of them too friends and 1 to a guy there at the hunt that helped me get them out. I will get or build a deer cart before next season. A buddy of mine got 8 this year and gave most of them away. Let me know next year and I'll see if I can get you one. :-D Thanks j-suber for getting the pic up. Creech why you shaking your head? :o

I didn't mean any disrespect by it, sounds like you had a heck of a time on that hunt. I just hate seeing 1 1/2 yr. old bucks taken and not given a chance to reach there maximum potential. That being said, I do realize that on a place like that if you hadn't shot him there's a good chance some other hunter would have.

:-D Just seeing if I missed something Creech, DNR aged him at 3.5 yrs and 175lbs. It was a state park hunt and they want you to kill them all. :-D Out of 138 hunters only 18 were shot. I think they have succeded in thinning them out. :o
