anybody know softball?

Anybody know the difference between slow-pitch and fast-pitch girls softball?
My 12 yr old wants to play with TPRD and since she's not played before I was wondering if the only diff is slow vs fast?
I told her to start with slow but the choice of location to play is not, let's say - preferred...

From what I have seen on TV I don't think I could hit one of the fast pitched soft balls.. those girls can put the heat on..I would guess a slow pitched soft ball would not hurt near as bad as a fast pitched one...

Been in your shoes. My daughter started playing fast pitch when she was 11, due primarily to the fact that the county we were living in at the time did not offer slow pitch. Most (or a least a lot) of the recreation leagues are turning to fast vice slow pitch....from what I've been told it's what the girls want to play. I believe most of the high schools are playing fast pitch as well. I was a little concerned at first, but at that age, there are not many "fireballers," rather girls simply trying to get the ball over the plate, which means the adjustment to fast pitch should be easier at that age. I'm glad we decided to give the fast pitch a go. My daughter enjoyed playing, gained more confidence the more she played and got pretty good at it.

Sounds like a great opportunity for father and daughter to spend some more time together in the batting cages and in the back yard learning to hit a slightly faster (at this age) moving softball.

If you think she will ever play in High School definitely go with fast pitch.
