Redfishing 2-9-08

Post by jsuber »

Did a little fishing on Friday to get warmed up for the Saturday tournament. Talltails and myself went out of Levy Bay and found that water is an essential element ot catching fish unless your shopping at the fish market. Left there and went over to Alligator Harbor and there was not much water there either but we managed to do a lot of catching. TT and myself landed over 25 Reds and the biggest was 30" long. Not bad when your standing in less than 2 feet of water and casting blind. Capt Mike Sppon in the 3/8 Hammered finish with a Treble and the Gold 1/4 with Pink sticker were the ticket. Worked the spoon back and a medium pace and they were very aggressive and taking the spoons down out within 10 yards of our initial cast.

Fished on Saturday morning and the weatehr was beautiful but the water and tide were being very difficult but we still managed to catch over 50 Redfish, a few Trout and one flounder. I threw back 3 24" Redfish aand was startingto regret my decision as the day wore on as I didn't awant to bother keeping a fish if it wasn't at least 25 " Long. I caught one that was 25.5" and weighed 5.21 llbs. Talltails caught one that measured 26.5" and weighed 6.18 lbs. Both had really fat heads and we kept them alive up to the weigh in but they didn't make the cut with fish like that big old Redfish Keyser caught. Flounderpounder caught one Redfish that had 6 spots on it and was throwing back 25+ redfish to try and stay in the running for the spot tournament. Really good day, but the weather was good enough for the boaters to get to the fish too. Caught all of our fish on Gulp 3" Shrimp on a jig head. I used one bag that had 6ea 3" Shrimp in it and still had four left when I went to the hill.

Talltails took the photo and I took it from the FCKA site. I didn't have time to photshop it. I'll look at that now.

Got it done.
