I am wanting to upgrade my handheld gps to a fixed mount one. any suggestions on which model to get, best buy for the money?

Go with garmin. I would also suggest a map version with the Bluecharts installed. The entry level machine that offers these options is the 162.

Not to be A smartass but it depends on what you can afford and how well you can see.
I have A 182 which is B&W I am old and poor. now wish I had the largest color unit Garmin made. I do still love my 182. You need to go out with A friend and give each A try. its A decision thats personal.

When installing bluechart is it better to use the chip or get a cd/rom
disc?

got a friend that runs the garman 180 little hard to see in the sun light other than that works great.........
