Pretty much what you've already said:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,331558,00.htmlMIAMI — Two fighter pilots are missing after their jets collided in mid-air off the Florida Panhandle Wednesday during a training mission.
Search and rescue teams are en route to the crash while the conditions of the two pilots is unknown.
The two F-15 C Eagle fighter jets disappeared about 3 p.m. ET off the Florida Panhandle over the Gulf of Mexico, said Eglin Air Force Base spokesman Sgt. Brian Jones.
The Coast Guard sent three helicopters, a plane and two boats to the scene.
"We don't know what led to the disappearance," said Master Sgt. Andrew Leonhard, an Air Force spokesman. "We had no contact from the pilots."
The crash occurred about 50 miles south of Tyndall Air Force Base.

Re: jets colide over Gulf
Me and my brother-in-law were out in the Gulf yesterday when this happened. We decided to take the boat out for a cruise being that the weather was so nice. About 1:00pm or so, it was announced over the marine radio that they were going to be conducting live bombing exercises over the area. We saw the 2 planes a short time later and watched them for 10 minutes or so before they seemed to just disappear. My brother-in-law made the comment that "those things are so fast....they're here one minute and gone the next." We never saw them again or heard them. Shortly thereafter, the Coast Guard out of Mobile announced that 2 aircraft had gone down. They gave the coordinates and requested that any available vessels please respond for assistance. Obviously the coordinates were out of our range, so we turned on the radio to listen for a news update. A short while later, another F-15 flew directly over us from the east about 1/4 mile or so up. He was booking it! We didn't actually hear what had happened till we got back in because it didn't make it on the news till a while after it happened. I took a picture last Friday while we were out and made the comment that it looked like a plane had gone down.....

The weather was just incredible yesterday......clear, sunny and calm...

I'm curiouos too see what happened and prayers go out to the family of the pilot that was lost.
