Keaton Beach 3/2/08

Post by Reel Slow »

Hit ramp at 6:20. First out. Beautiful morning. Wind from NE, then E, then SE...

Found reds in deeper water than last couple trips. Early could only see them when the tails were up. Had a hard time getting them to see the fly. Started out with a Rattle Rouser. Several close shots, placed left of the fish, then right, hell on top...no go...they were just diggin their little butts off! Figured the Rattle Rouser would get some attention, but not much!

Finally a tailing red caught notice and pounced the fly...got off at the the boat....Sun came out nicely and had 2 strong follows but no takes...knees knocking now..good bye rattle rouser! In clear water they say to use flashy flies for reds, dunt seem to work for me. They seem to follow but not bite....Dunno.

Put on a Nole Logic fly. Wind layed, sun out, awsome number of mid slot reds around....but skittish as heck. Picked up a 23" red. Yes!

Sorry for lousy pics, no wifey around for the posey.

A boat came in where I was fishing so I moved..ran to a new spot. Not much happening till I found a school hammering bait. There were some monster reds roaming and a big school of slot reds.

Layed out and interested this 25" red from a school headed toward the boat

Headed in at noon. Great fun!!

Can't wait til next time
