Jeff Myers spoke about a benefit fishing tournament on March 29th in Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee to help raise money for charity.
A representative for Take a Kid Fishing spoke about their program where they take kids from the Lighthouse Children’s Home fishing one Saturday soon (I can’t remember the date). Volunteers are needed!
Steve then introduced Capt. Pat McGriff, a fishing guide out of Keaton Beach who talked to the club about catching trout in that area. Pat stressed that this time of the year, you must slow your presentation way down to be successful catching big trout. Pat likes using jerkbaits and pausing 10-15 seconds between each “Jank” (a combination jerk / yank). Pat believes that you should let the fish dictate what you throw and that you should wait until you’re out on the water to decide what lure to tie on.
Pat is a big believer that the sky color should help you decide what color to tie on. For overcast skies he likes an orange-bellied lure because it helps the fish see the silhouette of the lure better. He likes bright colors in darker water and more natural colors in clear water. Pat is a big fan of Renegade jerkbaits.
Pat thinks that most of the big trout will be in fairly shallow water around rocks. On low tides, these rocks are out of the water and absorb heat. Once the tide rises, they then transfer most of that heat to the water causing the water temperature to rise slightly. The big trout notice this and will lie against these rocks absorbing the heat.\

The meeting attendance was at 67. It was a fun meeting - everyone learned a lot and there was great fellowship among members.
