North of Keaton - 3-10-08

Post by PerryFisherMan »

Fished north of Dekle this afternoon with my son (spring break). The water was stained from the recent rains but clear. The more north one went, the darker the water became, but it was still clear. The predicted EAST wind was actually a WEST wind, which I was glad about.

We fished Gulps (sorry!) and Mirrolures. We didn’t slay them at all. We caught two reds, one short and the other only 18.5”. Saw a few others but they looked lethargic. We also caught one trout about 16.5”. We had to fish the bait slower than normal. But there was plenty of bait fish in the area.

It was a beautiful day on the water, but I believe the cold front last weekend has slowed them down and expect the fishing to get better about Wednesday. I would have waited until Wednesday to go, but my son wanted to and I couldn’t resist.

Best of all – fishing with my college buddy – I loved every minute of it. If we hadn’t got a bite, I’d still have enjoyed it.

PS – always make sure the boat is actually properly attached to the hitch. The excitement of the day was about 1 mile down the road from the house when I hear an unfamiliar noise, look in the mirror, and I can see my boat from a different angle (the tongue was dragging on the ground, but thank the Lord for chains). Oh well – you have to make memories someway…

Almost all people that go fishing much...sometimes during their life...leave the trailer on the ball unsnapped. I have done it once and if it wasn't for chains there would have been a catastrophe.
Good report...I have been wondering how the storm effected the fishing. I agree...later on in the week will be much better. :-?

Count your self lucky you didn't damage the boat or trailer.

Glad you could keep on going and get out!

Can we get the spell check working again I don't know what a catra"stify" is but if BB had one when he fell out of the boat it may have snapped clean off. :smt005

Sorry 989 the smallest things make me laugh.

PFM I hope to fish that area later this week maybe Friday.
Yesterday it was taboo today it is normal what the heck will they be doing tomorrow?

If I could troll Birddogs underwear and catch fish, he would be wet right now.
