Talquin Info

Post by chugbug »

Can anyone point me in the right direction on Talquin? Never been there and would like to go try it sometime and catch a bass or two. I heard it was full of stumps.... Anything else to watch out for? Any special colors??

Great lake.. STUMPS EVERYWHERE!! watch out, you'll learn the channels eventually..best bass fishing that I have found is at mouth of ochlocknee-- padds and grass matts, and up into little river which is a couple miles from ochlocknee towards the main lake. as it gets warmer there is some awesome top water action, right at daylight, then my second choice to throw out there is a purple speed worm or red shad sinko and watermelon brush hog.
Around June/July mayflies will start showing up and fishing tends to be fabulous for a couple weeks...when the flies are there go to the iron curtain right at coes landing.

I have just been fishing it since late last Summer. I generally fish from Goat Island up to the Iron Curtain just outside Coe's Landing.

I have had pretty good luck with RatLTraps, spinnerbaits, and Senkos. The bass in my avatar was caught on a green senko last Fall. It was 7 pounds, 6 ounces.

You will see guys running their Rangers wide open on Talquin, but those guys know the lake. Until you learn it, be careful.

I have been fishing Talquin all my life. The Bass fishing right now is great. Fluke's are a good bet right now in the lilly pads in the back of most any creek. Fish are also bedding but do to the stained water are kinda hard to see. There are stumps everywhere out there but even the pros are just guessing to a certain extent. Watch for the ones you can see. The rest will take care of themselves.

Good look!
