Aereator pumps for livewells

Post by Talltails »

I'm trying to install a pump on my carolina skiff. Most setups I have seen place the pump BELOWthe water level inside the hull with a through hull connection for water supply. By design, CS boats sit on top of the water, so there is no area of the boat to place the pump to be able to draw water to the livewell. Is there a pump that will actually draw water up above water level, or is there one that I can actually place down in the small recessed area in the back of the boat? Because that always has small amount of water collected in it, I'm worried that it would damage the pump to sit there. Thanks for any suggestions.

I got a 19' CS and the pump is in the sump through the hull...It goes through the hull about 4" above the bottom of the boat...The drain goes through right beside it..
CS may be designed to sit on top of the water but mine sure don't..The weight of a 90 merc sits it way down in the water...Go through the hull from the sump and you won't have any trouble picking up all the water you need...

Doesn't your sump pit collect water? And if so, is it alright for the aereator pump to get submerged?

Be sure to use a QUALITY through hull fitting with a quality brass valve so you can close it off if needed.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
