Bald Point 5-4

Post by Talltails »

I met Littoral at the state park this morning and fished the incoming tide. It was Lit's maiden voyage in his new Tarpon 160I that he won at the FCKA tourney. The wind was pretty mild for most of the morning and then picked up big time later. I ended up catching several reds to about 24", a couple slot trout, and we got into the jacks as well.
---One quick story: I hooked into a red that had some considerable girth and fought like it. As I'm finally wearing it out, it all of a sudden jumps a couple feet out of the water(it was easily an upper slot red), and just as I'm thinking how wierd that was, a VERY large bull shark surfaces and bites the red in half. This was so close, that I got doused with water from the eruption. The water around my yak exploded with blood, and a quick few seconds later, the other half of the fish is in the shark and my drag is screaming. I fought the shark for a few mind numbing minutes before it severed my 30# leader. It was an incredible experience.

I bet that was a wild ride! Too bad about the fish. So did you win the tournament?

Beat me good. Woulda helped if I could have actually anchored AND fished.
Suffice to say I got some work to do setting up my new kayak.
I'll add to the story tomorrow. Great fishing with Talltails, I learned a lot.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

That's a cool experience...keep those feet in the yak :-D

Reminds me of BD's story of quail almost biting him.
