Do you guys have a favorite rod length fishing from a Kayak vs. boat? Do longer rods work better?
Thanks!

Re: Rod Length fishing from a Kayak
I use 7' 6" rods in my kayak. From the sitting position in a kayak you are able to get more casting distance with a longer rod. Plus the extra length allows you more room to position the rod tip past the front or back of the yak when a fighting fish changes directions.

I've always used 7 foot rods & cast a mile with braid anyway.
I'll consider 7'6" now because my new yak is 16' vs my old 12'9".
I don't imagine 6" would make a difference but last time I imagined what would work didn't work out too well.
Fly fishing from the yak is a different story though...

Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

Hey TT,
I like 7 foot rods, but find that in a short yak (9.5 ft Hobie Sport), 6.5 works better.

I currently use 7' rods, but my next will be 7'6".
