Rules are Rules
Rules are Rules. In a local trout tournament the rule states that a team can weigh 2 fish over 20 inches long. It also states that if that team presents more than 2 fish over 20 inches long...all their fish are disqualified.
Today a team presented 3 fish over 20 inches long.
All their fish were disqualified.
This team would have won 1st place.
Had this team presented their 6th place fish in place of the 3rd over 20 fish...no question would have been raised.
They would have still won 1st place.
All their fish were disqualified.
The reason for this post is pay attention to the rules.

That was the fastest someone went from high fives and bragging to getting in the truck and leaving completely pissed off. But you are right, rules are rules.

Re: Rules are Rules
Saw a similiar situation today in Carrabelle. Seems a winning fish looked gorged and the belly was sliced to check it. In the belly was a small (read under sized/not legal) reef fish (beeliner or lane snapper, don't remember which) that had been butterflied and used as bait. Automatic disqualification of fish due to an illegal bait.

Re: Rules are Rules
Very unfortunate for that team. As you mentioned, it is crucial to read and understand the rules of any given tournament as they do tend to change. Rules are rules, an example of their importance had to be made. This will never be an issue again because of it. Congrats on the 3rd place win, you got us by .5 of an ounce. We're gunnin for ya next time!

This was not a NFGFC tournament. In this tournament if you don't place 1st, 2nd or 3rd. You win NOTHING.

Been out of pocket........
That's right rules are rules, simple black and white.
The shame of it is......Where his fish were caught was the same place where I had an 14lb. 8 oz. stringer two weeks earlier with that new bait. Those fish must be thick.
I really hated to hear of the out come............But it is what it is.......Glad everybody had a safe day.
