St.Marks with BB

Post by Sea Spot »

Jay and I left my house around 5:45 thursday headed to ST.Marks.The water was almost slick with a light breeze ,(TOP WATER DAY).Image
The tide was going out so we put the trolling motor down and slowly moved in fishing spotted bottom and rocks. It didn't take long for the action to start when a nice 19" trout fell victim to the spook.Soon after we see hundreds of mullet jumping and rolling so we move in and BB's skitterwalk gets blown up by a 24 inch red.Image.
Power poled down and began working the area .I cast over a sea of mullet and start working the spook and it gets hammered by a 21.5 inch trout.
Image
BB fires the skitter walk in and again the water parts when another nice red, 22 inches hooks up.
Image
The action was on until flipper shows up so we pull up the pole and head for another rock pile, picking up a few more good trout .The tide went dead and the bite slowed so we moved around looking for some new spots until the tide began to move again.A couple hours later the water starts moving again and the wind is now a steady 10 to 15 so we tie on 4"gulp and jerk baits. We set up a drift to carry us into rocks and spotted bottom and boy did it pay off.BB jerks back to set the hook and the carrot stick gets all bowd up and drag starts singing .
Image.
The fight of the day is on and it takes two trips around the boat and several drag pulling runs before BB can boat his 28.5 inch 10lb.13ounce red.
Image
Image
Hit several more spots picking up 6 more reds and a couple trout and BB lost a big 24-26 inch trout at the boat. :smt010 .

The coolest thing of the day was when we watched two apachee helicopters fly up behind a huge 4 prop plane and connect to the fuel lines.

HEll of a trip Keith. Like always I had a blast. I got word the Maverick wont be back until next Thursday so it will probably be the following week before we get to make her maiden voyage. Thanks for the trip and the memories. Thats my biggest red in shallow water in a long time. They are a lot more fun in close. Nothing like finessing a pissed off red from behind two rocks!! I thought I was gonna lose that one for sure. Its a cool day when you cant go catch a red under 20". That was a hoss trout you put in the boat and we'll just say the one I lost was the good lord telling us to go home and save that spot for tourney day!@!! Its amazing how much that things mouth looked like a yellow solocup with teeth!! I still cant believe we witnessed a mid air fuel up. Bet that doesnt get seen every day!! Cant wait til next time, and oh by the way, the red was 9lbs 13oz(9.8lbs), but hell I like your measurements better!!!!! Thanks again and great report. You one hell of a capytan!!!
