Memorial Day Monday

Post by RodBow »

Memorial Day Monday - preacher man shared this yesterday...

Moment Of Remembrance
In 1996, a humanitarian organization based in Washington, D.C., known as 'No Greater Love' conducted a survey on children and asked them why do they think there is a holiday on Memorial Day. It was agonizing to hear their remarks that were all associated with barbecues and extended weekend parties and celebration, while they hadn't the vaguest idea about the sacrifices of the soldiers in whose honor it is celebrated. One of the children was even quoted as saying that this was the day when swimming pools open!

Thus, the organization came up with the idea of 'National Moment of Remembrance' to remind and especially, let the future generations know about the real meaning of the holiday. The idea clicked with the President and Congress and since 1997, it became a standard American tradition. National Moment of Remembrance requires everybody to keep silent for a minute, exactly at 3.00 pm (local time) when 'Taps' is played and reflect on the glory of those who have shed blood for us. The federal government hopes to raise public awareness about the heroes and their valor by introducing this moment.

From across the pond I send greetings and thanks to all past, present and future men and woman that put their lives on the line so that those of us in the free world can go about our daily tasks, in relative peace and safety, may we forever be allies.

I always think of my uncles that fought in WWII they were quiet men who did not brag about doing what they had to do.
One was at every major conflict in Europe- including flying a glider in 3 days before the D-Day landing.
Another was a Bomber pilot and flew over India and Egypt.
The last taught dog fighting techniques here in the states.

None derived any joy from their task- they only served as they were asked.
They have all passed now but they are not forgotten

I did not serve in the armed forces but come from a family where ... from as far as family memory went I was the only one who didn't. Dad was a Marine, a DI at that, and I felt like I already did my time so i went to college instead. But now as, as someone who worked in the twin towers often and was in NYS on 9/11/01 and as a father of 3 boys I can't tell you how much I appreciate the sacrifices the men and women in our armed forces have made for us!

A very heart felt thanks to all who have helped preserve our way of life!

AS A WW 2 VET. I SERVED MY COUNTRY AND WAS GLAD TO DO MY PART TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM WE HAD IN THE PACIFIC, WAS THERE 4 YRS. I APPRECIATE THE ABOVE COMMENTS. I AM KINDA CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT OUR NATION IS FACING RIGHT NOW. SOME OF THE ( SO CALLED POLITITIONS THAT ARE RUNNING FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION) I AM ASHAMED THAT OUR COUNTRY DOES NOT HAVE ANY BETTER PEOPLE TO CHOOSE FROM. ONE A MUSLEM, ONE A WOMAN THAT WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET VOTES, AND 1, BLESS HIS HEART IS A GOOD MAN AND I HOPE HAS GOOD ENOUGH HEALTH TO HANDLE THE JOB. I ONLY HOPE AND PRAY THAT THE GOOD PEOPLE OF OUR COUNTRY WILL WEIGH VERY HEAVYLY AND SELECT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS ANY COMMON SENSE AND EXPERIENCE ON HOW TO HANDLE THE RAG HEADS WE ARE FIGHTING. WE NEED TO GET OUT OF THE U.N. AND MAKE OUR OWN DECISIONS WITH OUT HAVING TO GET THE APPROVAL FROM A BUNCH OF NUTS. WHEN YOU ARE DEALING WITH PEOPLE LIKE THE MUSLEMS THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO DO IT. THE ONLY LANGUAGE THEY UNDERSTAND IS FORCE. UNTIL WE MAKE UP OUR MINDS WHAT WE HAVE TO DO THERE WILL BE NO PEACE IN THE WHOLD ARABIC COUNTRIES. SINCE I AM ON MY SOAP BOX, THERE ARE A FEW THINGS WE NEED TO DO HERE IN AMERICA, ONE IS SLOW DOWN THE IDIOTS OUT ON THE ROADWAYS, I TRY TO DRIVE ABOUT 55-60 MPH, BY DOING THIS I AM GETTING 30-31 MILES PER GALLON OUT OF A BIG CAR, THE NUTS THAT PASS ME RUNNIN 80-90 MPH ARE GETTING MAYBE 12-13 MPG, THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT ARE YELLING THEIR HEADS OFF ABOUT THE HIGH PRICE OF GAS. MAYBE WE SHOULD DO LIKE WE DID BACK IN THE WAR YEARS, RATION GAS TO 3 GAL. PER WEEK, WE WOULD NEVER HEAR THE END OF THE YELLING ABOUT THAT. SERIOUSLY WE ALL NEED TO CONSERVE NOT ONLY GAS BUT EVERYTHING WE USE, WATER, FOOD, TIME AND USE SOME COMMON SENSE ABOUT WHAT WE DO. I HAVE MADE ONE TRIP TO THE COAST THIS YEAR, IT IS NOT THAT I CAN NOT AFFORD IT BECAUSE I CAN, IT IS BECAUSE I AM TRYING TO DO MY PART TO CONSERVE OUR FUEL RESOURSES, JUST LIKE I DID DURNING WW 2, I DID MY PART TO HELP MY COUNTRY. WE ALL NEED TO DO THIS NOW.
I GUESS I HAVE SAID ENOUGH TO CAUSE SOME FLACK FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.

PA, I appreciate the way you think.. I too have started using the cruise and cant wait to get my little boat back so i can start going fishing and only burn 6-8 gallons of gas and zero diesel. Its amazing how much better fuel mileage I get staying under 60 mph. I went Sunday to the coast and to Panacea to eat and back to Cairo, Only burnt 1/2 tank of fuel. Normally Id of had to fuel up at the coast before i left. Thanks for spreading some earned wisdom, something us young whippersnappers are still trying to learn.    One more  to you, thanks for your service to keep this great nation, GREAT!!!
