Not a banner catching day, but very interesting and fun.
Fast Freddie and I launched my boat at the fort around 10 this morning. Much to my surprise there weren't many folks there. Headed east to fish out the falling tide and the slack. Not much actino until around 2 this afternoon. We were drifting in toward redfish country when Freddie tied into a well over slot red. After a 3 minute fight the fish threw the bait. We moved on in and started chunking for reds. Freddie Threw his stick bait out, twitched it and something that left a large hole in the water knocked it about 15 feet then chased it down and ate it. We did see the fish for a second. He had tied into what I would estimate to have been a 60 to 70 pound tarpon. Right at the end of the day I had a well over slot red on for a while until it made its way to an oyster bed and cut me off.
Back on the trailer at 7 this evening.
We spent most of the day in 2' of water or less. The water had a slight brown color. I didn't pay attention to the water temp.
Tally for the day was several short trout, 3 keepers between 17" and 23". 1 short red, 1 22" red. But there was enough excitement with the big fish we had on to make it an enjoyable day.
