FISHIN ST. MARKS

Post by FUTCHCAIRO »

WELL THE TWO OLD MEN OF THE SEA FINALLY MADE A TRIP DOWN TO THE COAST TO CATCH SOME TROUT. WE LAUNCHED AT THE LIGHT HOUSE AT 7:30 THIS MORNIN. WIND WAS OUT OF THE N. AT ABOUT 10-15 TO START BUT IT CALMED DOWN AROUND 9 A.M. WE FISHED THE WEST FLATS WITH NO SUCCESS, WENT OUT IN FRONT OFTHE LIGHTHOUSE AND HAD SEVERAL BLOW-UPS BUT NO HOOK-UPS. WE WENT FURTHER EAST AND STARTED CATCHING A FEW TROUT HERE AND THERE. USED MANY DIFF. BATES AND MADE MANY CAST ONLY TO CATCH ONE HERE AND THERE. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY, I SAW A CORK BOBBIN AND THEN GO DOWN, THEN IT WOOULD BOB AND THEN GO DOWN AGAIN. WHEN WE GOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO CATCH THE CORK I CAUGHT IT AND BROUGHT IT INTO THE BOAT, I THEN SAW A GOOD SIZE RED FISH ON THE END OF THE LEADER, ABOUT THE TIME I SAW HER SHE SAW ME AND AWAY SHE WENT SNAPPING THE LINE. SHE LOOKED TO BE ABOUT 36-38", WAY TOO BIG TO KEEP IF I HAD GOTTEN HER INTO THE BOAT. I STARTED PULLING IN LINE THAT WAS ATTACHED TO THE CORK AND FINALLY I PULL UP A FAIRLY NEW SHIMANO STATIC 4000 REEL, AND A UGLY STICK ROD. I TIED A JIG HEAD AND GRUB ON THE LINE AND THREW IT OUT AND THE FIRST THING I KNEW HAD A FISH ON. FOUGHT HIM FOR A LITTLE BIT AND GOT IN A SMALL BONNETT HEAD SHARK, CAUGHT SEVERAL MORE FISH ON THE NEW ROD. WHEN I GET A LITTLE NAP I WILL BREAK DOWN THE REEL AND CLEAN IT GOOD , RE-GREASE IT AND SHE WILL BE READY FOR THE NEXT TRIP, WE CAUGHT A TOTAL OF 9 TROUT, 2 SEA BASS, 5 SHARKS, 5 CATFISH, 1 REDFISH, 1 BLUE, SEVERAL LADIES, AND GOT CUT OFF 4 TIMES, LOOSING 4 GOOD PLUGS, TWO OF THEM BRAND NEW. IT WAS NOT A STELLAR DAY BUT WE ENJOYED BEING ABLE TO GET BACK OUT ON THE BAY AGAIN.

Hey, Pa, glad ya made it back out on the flats. Sounds like ya had some good luck, and got a good rig to boot. I bet whoever lost that rig was pizzed! At least you got to see the big red, I lost a big one yesterday that looked close to 30''.

HEY DIXIE, I JUST GOT THE REEL TORE DOWN, THERE IS NO COROSION ON THE INTERNAL PARTS OR THE EXTERNAL FINISH. DRIED IT OUT WITH BABE'S HAIR DRYER , RELUBED AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER, THAT WILL MAKE A NICE LITTLE FLATS COMBO.
