Here’s your answer. Both a captain and one of our lieutenants weighed in and said, no – we are not arresting people for splitting the cost of fuel, etc. You can read the last line of Lt. Nelson’s response. Where the problems will come in is hiring someone to take you out who is unlicensed.

I have not seen or heard of anyone addressing this behavior. In reading the bloggers comments, I would have to agree with the one that stated the vessel must be “for hire”.
A USCG license, along with commercial registered vessel and all the equipment associated with that business. A few friends splitting the cost for ice, bait, and fuel is not for hire.
