Headed down to Econfina late yesterday evening, hoping to get to the ramp in time to hit the water for an hour or so. Thunderstorms everywhere, so we stopped to patronize Beef O Bradys for a while. Got to econfina and went to charge the batteries. No power to the switch panel. Put the batteries on charge and decided to try and find the breaker for the switch panel early in the am. No flashlight on the new boat. Had to wait til daylight. One of the spade clips had worked off. Finally got the Maverick on the water around 7 am. This trip was mostly to get more familiar with the new boat and hunt for some new tourney spots. Began at the first area I had chosen the night before. Probably had 30 blow ups on top water but all were hitting way short. tried slowing down my retrieve , Had a pig trout , better than 25",on for about 20 seconds, rod tip down, fish walked, spit and laughed. New numbers stored in new GPS. My buddy who was fishing with me said man this sux!! All these huge trout blowing up on top water and we cant put one in the boat. I say yes, it sux, but we now know where they are!! We ease on out for another spot. Caught 4 reds to 25". Move on down to water I havent fished in three years. Many shorts on top water. So far in the box, two reds , no trout. Fished on out to 2.5 ft and put a couple of 18"ers in the box. Fished around, decided to head to the coral beds. Nada. Fished on out to ten foot of water, nada. Haulled azz down to some other water not seen in a while back west. Six trout and a pile of trash fish. Thunderstorms are brewing and we decide to call it a day. I then break BB,TOO! in BB style. Im heading to the bow to store some rods and my buddy had hung a brand new Super Spook on the side of the bait bucket. Them hooks are sharp!! I feel a pull on my foot and look down to see a huge treble hook buried to the curve in the arch of my foot. SON OF A BIOTCHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Didnt hurt til I saw it. I sit down on the side of the boat and tell Joey, now the boat is broken in. I take the rear hooks off and then take the Spook off the front hook. I try to remember the Bill Dance hook removal method but cant. I grab my pliers and a Busch Light. I crack the BL open. Couple of swigs of courage and Im set. I grab the treble and yank straight out. WOW!! That hurt. Hurt even more that it didnt come all the way out. Couple of more swigs of courage, I grasp the pliers and lean toward the hook. Joey says , here let me do it. I say , YOU MUST BE OUT YO DAYUM MIND! He convinces me.He says dont hit me about ten times. I assure him Im not going to. He reminds me how big a boy I am and theres no reason for both of us to be hurt so please dont hit him. I say lets get it over with. He says on three ,look the other way, 1......2....Snatch@#%^!^$^@&**@^%$!&*@***!!!!!!!!!!!
. The hook is now out. i say I thought you said on THREE!!! He laughs and says he didnt want me to flench and he wanted time to get out the way if I started swinging.
. Finish off the BL and haul azz in on the Maverick for a fine day, other than a little blood. she was officially slimed up for Dolphinatic. He is gonna detail her tomorrow and wax her real good. A fine day of fishing on the new boat. I really like that boat, not BB, but she'll do in a pinch!!! Total tally for the day, 4 reds to 25" and 9 keeper trout to 20.5". No pig trout today but found some really good new territory to fish. Hopefully next tourney, there wont be forty other boats sittin on top of us!! Only saw three other boats all day,beautiful day on the water!! Sorry , no pics. New boat, forgot the camera!!!
