Stupid Question

Beside each post there is a circle with lines in it. Some of them are scrolling....what does that mean? Is there a legend of the symbols somewhere? Also, Is there any way to tell if a post has pictures before clicking on it? I'm sorry, but I still miss the old antiquated intuitive format.

The symbol indicates an active post. If the lines are scrolling, it has multiple pages. If the lines are red, it's a new post you haven't read. If there's a red star in the circle, by the lines, you've posted on that thread.
