Didn't we just do this? 4 in to 140 Ft. Grown up fishing

Post by Ranaman »

After our little family vacation in Lanark end of last week and weekend we realized with all the scallop cleaning then packing of the boat, truck, kids & dog we had left our laptop at BlueH2OFisherman's place and decided we'd take a relaxing drive back over Friday night after dropping off the kids with their Dad and since I didn't feel like dragging the boat back down again maybe do a little wade fishing Saturday morning before returning. Well, best laid plans of mice and men they say often go awry, I'd say twisted is an appropriate synonym to say the least!

I got a hold of Dale or BBB from the other side (FS NW Forum) during the week and he invited us to do some gigging Friday night; something Celeste and I have always been wanting to do, so we laid the ground work for a trip and it all came together pretty well after dropping the kids we'd meet him in Shell Point on the way to Lanark and go for a little gigging all is good. Here is BBB's report of the trip!

Then Andy Weeks our wonderful friend and captain from last week hears tell we'll be Coastal and asks if we want to go back and get some more deep water species; we couldn't say no to the man who showed our kids (and us) one of the greatest fishing trip of their lives, so we tell him we'll be there! Well after hitting a few good flounder as reported nicely by Dale we realized that it was already 2AM and we didn't quite have the box of fish we or Dale wanted yet, so he put us on a little run to pick up a couple more nice flounder and the 2 sheepies to round out the morning/night.

By this time it was beginning to look like we were not going to sleep at all, but we got into Lanark and situated in time to get a quick cat nap (40-45minutes) before getting the coffee brewing and gather our offshore gear together enough to meet Andy at Indian Pass by just after 7AM!! Well there was a few rough spots here and there, but we put our fishing hats on and drank the Joe to get us to go and off we went! Celeste got a few more  while I drove; I don't think I napped again until the ride back in at 6 pm!

Not known two to make a fuss about lack of sleep we just pulled up our pants and thanks to Capt'n Andy's fishing hole we pulled up the fish as well! Here is what the heat of the day will do to you :smt028 !

You can all count as well as I, but here is what I remember:
1 29¨ AJ
2 Red Grouper @ 22-23¨
6 very nice ARSnapper
2 huge Vermillion (Beeliners) One a Porpoise tried to take from Andy you see it lost!
1 nice King
4 Mangrove snapper
3 Scamp grouper
1 Lane Snapper
2 red porgy

We trolled for Wahoo with only one hit and miss all day found a nice little piece of live bottom in @ 142 while trolling where we picked up the scamps, red grouper a vermillion and a mangrove, not bad for a found spot!

Thanks again to Dale, Andy and my Lanark connection you guys are the best!

Joe and Celeste

Addendum: Suday after cleaning and vacuum sealing all the fish and cleaning up the Lanark trailer we found ourselves able to take it really easy going home due to the kids spending and extra day in Jax. We stopped by and said hey to Carrabellefish and his Grandpa and then hit the road, we decided to stop at Angelo’s for dinner and I thought to myself we have a cooler full of nice fish wonder if they cook something up for us!! We gave them that big flounder to prepare stuff and they did an exceptional job!! It was my first time there and the staff was great, service fast and the cooks did our flounder up right. Oh and dinner with appetizers a couple beers and sides was very reasonable price wise because we brought our own entree!!
