I assume you're talking about grouper. You can do it and probably catch some if you can put up with the floating grass...It makes it miserable to try to pull a stretch..October is a lot better choice though. We were drifting off Encofina this past Monday in aobut 8 ft of water which was clear as all get out...went over a rockpile that had a gag about 15" on it..

Redfin, I reckon trolling could beat setting still, if for no other reason than stirring up a breeze. Sundown is right on about the grass. You'd probably have as much time spent unfouling plugs as pulling them.

Its not worth it for me right now, I'm waiting for mid Oct. Things should be sparkin' up by then.

LATE FALL AND WINTER ABSOLUTE BEST TIMES FOR TROLLING FOR GROUPER, HOWEVER THE ONLY GROUPER (4 GAGS) MY FATHER CAUGHT THIS WEEKEND CAME FROM TROLLING.

IST OF AUGUST I WAS OVER AT ECONFINA AND WE TROLLED ALL DAY OUT 20 + MILES. CAUGHT 2 GROUPER LARGE ONE WAS 33 INCHES AND OTHER ABOUT 36 INCHES. DID NOT CATCH ANY OTHERS SHORTS BUT DID CATCH LARGEST SPANISH I HAVE EVER CAUGHT ON STRETCH 30 CHARTRUSE COLOR CAUGHT BOTH BUT WE TROLLED 3-4 LINES . NOT TOO MUCH GRASS AND FISH CAUGHT IN 29 FT AND 36 FOOT. WE DIDNT STAY OUT FOR THE BEST FEEDING TIME DUE TO LOW WATER AT ECONFINA AND COMING BACK IN SHALLLLOW!!!! TOO HOT FOR BOTTOM FISHING FOR ME . GOING THIS WEEKEND BUTGOINT TO GET SOME MORE SCALLOPS.
