Where to put in at Alligator Point?

Post by TNewbie »

Hi all,

Just another new guy tourist trying to catch a few fish. I'll be staying at a rental house on the eastern side of the harbor during the middle of Sept. I'll be bringing the canoe and was wondering if I am going to be in paddling range of decent fishing from that end of the harbor or if I'll need to put in somewhere else. Looking for trout and reds mostly but won't complain about anything that I could catch.

I'll be bringing a limited assortment of topwaters and jigs, any advice on specific stuff the fish like down there would be great.

Thanks,
"a humble vol fan"

If your house is on the water put in there and start fishing. If not, go to the ramp at Surf Rd. launch and start fishing.
Alligator Harbor holds trout/reds and about any other type of inshore species.
Good luck and send us a report.

Topwater lures.

There really are fish all over the harbor...
Fish the back end oyster bars and creeks for reds.
Grass on the north side for trout and reds.
and dont forget the boat docks.

Thank's, The house has a small dock so putting in there will be great.

Is there any type of topwater I need to get specifically? I'll have some spooks and a rapala skitterwalk, do I need something else?

Don't forget the extra lead for the PWC's so you can chunk it at 'em when they get too close

I hear they get thick in there.

If you get tired of fishing that area, you could always go to St Theresa's Leonard's Landing right off of 98 around the curve.

It's too bad that there isn't a spot closer to the Marine Lab.

...or does anyone know of a spot?

Go over to SunnSurf Rd, its located in northeast end. You can also put in at HWY 98 and there is a public ramp about a 1/4 mile from the Marina.

Good luck. I fished there several days this summer and did not have much luck. Ended up running to oyster bay - shell point and fished that area with better results. Never tried to the west around Lanark Village but I hear that is really good place.
