...well kind of.
thought I would try to catch some of the big carp up here in the lake so I went out the other day looking for them. Was polling across a large sand flat and ran across a few big'uns. Couldn't get them to take any of the flies I had, but it was fun.....Like fresh water redfishing. I'll get me one soon though.
the water in this picture is about 2' deep and those lily pads are about 10-12" across, to give you an idea about the size of the fish.
I know down here the fly guys use red berry flies for the carp. The carp collect under the trees when they are dropping berries and will tear up a red berry fly.
Just bought a book by Bob Clouser. He shows a small clouser deep minnow he uses for carp fishing made from red fox hair. If you want the ingredients for it, I can list them...
Said he used a size 8 seems too small
6/0 light cahill unithread
1/80 oz lead eyes red W/black pupils
Belly: cream colored guard hair from a red fox tail
flash: gold crystal flash
back Black tipped red fox guard hair
I tied a couple (had a fox tail) like a regular clouser minnow...looked good in dau's pool where I try all my flys. I figured I might try it sometimes around an oyster bar for a red..
