SGI Labor Day Weekend

Took a long weekend and went down to St. George for a few days. I was hoping for five straight days of fishing, but Gustav had other plans.
A friend of ours,Toni from D.C., had never been kayak fishing before, so she was anxious to try it out. We decided to put in at Rattlesnake cove for her maiden voyage. She was used to a touring kayak, but it didn't take her long to adjust to a Ocean Kayak Caper.
We fished around the bars and the island for a few hours with nothing more than a few ladyfish. We made to the sandy side of Gull Island and took a break on the beach.

We made our way around the island and decided to camp out on the bars off the point. I started the day off with this little guy on a Captain Mike's spoon.

Not wanting to be outdone, Toni came up with this one five minutes later. It was her first fish out of a kayak and measured 23 inches, but we threw him back for another day.

Glad you made it down for the weekend Toni, and I hope you liked fishing out of the yak. Maybe next year we won't have to dodge a hurricane.
