Which Boat??
I sold my 1442 Alumacraft Jon Boat in June when I bought my Key West, and I have been very pleased. Although lately I sure have missed those runs up to the shoals in the river. The Key West is an awesome boat, but it isn't a riverboat. I have decided to buy a little motor for one of my smaller boats and turn it into a riverboat.
I have a 13ft Gheenoe (rated for a 5hp) and an Alumacraft 1232 rated for an 8hp, they are both my boats and I use them both in ponds. Which one do you think I should use?? Both are good boats but whichever one I decide on, I am going to have to do some work and spend some $$ rigging it out. I already have a foot controlled Motor Guide I am going to use. I need to buy a depth finder and a few other essentials. Which one do you guys think I would be happier with? :smt102Thanks for your advice.

I think for the $ you will spend on a motor and fixin up one of those boat you could find a little bigger john for about the same $, already rigged boat motor and trailer. Craigslist and shoppers. Go looking!
Look at the boat picture of the one I bought recently on the "your rig " thread in the boat section. $2500 is what I paid.

Redbelly, that is a dang good answer.
I'd add, sell which ever of the two boats you don't use to add some $$ to the rigging budget.
Sell the Jon boat and buy another bigger one. Then you can run up on an oyster bar in a creek without worrying about fiberglass.

Re: Which Boat??
You guys are right, but I have to keep the costs down since I just bought the Key West 3 months ago I don't want my wife to leave me! I talked to a guy last week who wants to trade me a 6hp Mercury for my Beretta 12 gauge shotgun. I have only shot it 3 times and I don't hunt anymore, so I might make that trade. I will more than likely use the 1232 Jon. Thank for your advice.

Re: Which Boat??
Personally I'd use the Gheenoe. Never been a fan of the small, narrow jon boats. Or you can sell both and get a bigger jon or a Gheenoe Classic.

I agree. Trade the shotgun, and upgrade the boat. A narrow john will be a wet john!Nathan wrote:Personally I'd use the Gheenoe. Never been a fan of the small, narrow jon boats. Or you can sell both and get a bigger jon or a Gheenoe Classic.
