i'm going to keaton beach in august. what can i catch and how?

Hey gabartiton. Been off the site for a few weeks. Sorry you havn't received a reply on your post. Not a lot of folks on this site fish that far South. Bad news for Keaton in August. Normally I'd fish in 5-10 foot with fresh bait for Trout, Rock Bass, Cobia, Spanish, and a few Blues. Fresh bait meaning live Pin Fish under a Cajun Thunder rig, or Pin Fish free lined. Cut Pin Fish tail is usually a very good producer when it's hot also. Nornally, I'd stay out of the clearest water if possible.
The bad news is, there is no clean water anywhere inshore these days in the Big Bend area. The fishing has already been off bad this year because of the rain runoff. It's always slow in August anyway, so don't get your hopes up for full ice chests. August is when most folks I know go scalloping, but the water is so dark that's off too this year. There are a few being found around Keaton, but not like the previous 3 years of bumper crops. Bottom line is, go and enjoy yourself, don't let my opinion of Keaton in August deter you, but don't expect much luck with the fish.

It's been tough fishing here at Keaton. The water temp. is about 4 degrees cooler this year compared to last year at this time. I've found most of my trout up shallow, 3-4 feet, white grubs under a cajun thunder, but with all the fresh water it's tough.
