East of Lighthouse with daughter and SIL
Due to the 8:30 low tide we loaded up and left home at 7:30.
First stop JBT. Picked up some GULPS, CT's and a ZEBCO 33 combo.
Last trip out I let my SIL use one of my baitcasters. Then 2. Then 3 baitcasters. Had to cut the backlashes out of them all.
Second stop. The lighthouse. Got launched and headed east.
Third stop secret hole in 8 feet of water. I get the SIL rigged with a jighead and GULP. While I am rigging Jennifers' rod, SIL says "I got a big one". The 23" grouper is no match for the ZEBCO combo. In the cooler he goes.
We proceed to keep 4 trout 18-20 inches on this hole along with some nice rockbass. Several more short grouper mostly 18-20 inches.
Fourth stop. A few short grouper and rockbass.
Fifth stop. Same as stop # 4.
Sixth stop. 25 inch red on topwater. 25 inch red on GULP. Another 25,25,25,25,25,25,25.
Some turd saw us catching and moved in ahead of our drift twice. When I moved to re-drift he started setting up behing us on the same drift. Twice. Tired of this we moved on. Never saw him hook up.
Seventh stop. A 17" red.
Eigth stop. Five hardhead catfish.
Ninth stop. 18" trout and nothing else.
Tenth stop. Same place we started the day. More short grouper. Keeper rockbass and more nice trout. Lost 5 nice over 20" trout with the old head shake routine.
Water clarity was noticeably better in 7 feet and deeper. Really black coffee like in closer.
Tally: 15 trout.1 grouper. 25 rockbass.3 reds.
Got to talk to SunDown on the VHF. Good talking to you.
Weather was beautiful. Slight breeze to calm most of the day. West wind started about 3 p.m.
Got home and cleaned the kids a grouper, 2 reds, 10 rockbass, and 9 trout for the ride back to PC.

I heard about the Zebco 33 catch yesterday, I just assumed it was an urban legend, ha.

Nice trip and good cooler full

I hope you washed that Z33 beforee you threw it away. Sounds like a great day. Thanks for the report
Re: East of Lighthouse with daughter and SIL
Nice trip.
It even happens to me in the kayak which is rough because my options to relocate are a lot less.
Burns me too. I figure some people don't know what they're doing and don't mean to do it but they need to figure it out.Jumptrout51 wrote:Some turd saw us catching and moved in ahead of our drift twice. When I moved to re-drift he started setting up behing us on the same drift. Twice.

Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.
