Aucilla and out, 9/26,27 and 28
Took a buddy from work out Friday afternoon hoping that the seas would be nice enough to put him on some inshore Grouper action.... didn't happen. The winds were blowing a good 15kts so we decided to stick it out and hammer some shore line. Made a run to Palmetto Island, hoping that we would find some clarity but found only merk. I tide on a Cajun thunder and Gotcha grub on his line and began chunking topwater. He put three keeper trout in the boat before I could make my 5th cast, nothing huge all around 18". We then made a move back towards the Aucilla and managed to put 4 more good trout in the boat throwing the 6" Pearl Fluke, in about 1.5ft of water. Day over. He had a blast!
Saturday we headed out again for some inshore Grouper. This trip was mostly to find new bottom inorder to stock up the machine for the fall bite. We were able to locate a good amount of appealing bottom just S of the Aucilla entrance. One can only locate for so long without fishing so we dropped the stretch's and began trolling back over the bottom we found. After a few minutes both rods double over. However, they were far from Grouper. We had ran over a school of Bull reds. Both fish smashed the plugs at the same. I didn't have a measuring stick long enough to get a true length, but they exceeded the 36in stick I had by a 6 or 7 inches. True Pigs!!!! We decided to stop trolling and give some jigging a shot. Ended up with 2 nice Flounder. But no Groups???
Sunday. I could not be outdone by the Grouper so I headed out alone Sunday morning .... it was glass as most of you know. Only had 3 trolling plugs and all were gone in the first two hours. But before the last of them was gone I managed to hang a nice 30" Grouper in 17ft of water. Probably weighed around 15lbs. After losing that plug I decided to try my luck at jigging again. Ended up with 7 more grouper all just shy of 22". Got a mess of 13 to 14" rocky's, and an nice 29" spanish. All in all I had a fantastic time on the water and can't wait to get back out this weekend.
p.s. Still don't know how to post these pics but there should be some on myhometownfishing.com shortly.

Nice trip and details on the report.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

I had a blast. Can't beat catchin Grouper in a 17' Aluminum boat. Although, I will say that I'm thinking about stepping it up. Or at least puttin rod holders on it.
