Lanark 09.28

Post by Supa Fly »

Well, it's been a while since I've been out, but Sunday made the wait worth it. The morning started out with a little breeze and no clouds. After an hour or so, the wind laid down, and it looked like this....

This was truly a day made for sightfishing. No wind, no clouds, fairly clear water, and a good incoming tide. We started wading around 7:30 or 8:00. Started out kind of slow. We didn't see anything for the first hour or so, but I knew we had gotten there a little early. Around 10:00 I started seeing the first couple of reds. Over the next couple of hours or so we caught 11 reds, one flounder, and one trout. We also lost 2 or 3 fish, and I pulled the hook on one (got a little over zealous). 5 reds and one flounder on fly. Balance of the fish on spinning rods. Most fish were in the 20" - 22" range. Here's a picture of one of the bigger ones, probably went around 24" or 25".

For how nice the day was, I was suprised at the lack of people on the water - not that I'm complaining.

Thanks guys. I was wondering if I'd even remember how to fish. I did some practice casting in the park across the street the day before just to make sure. Jumptrout, my boat is the little black speck on the right in the first photo. The little black speck on the left was my fishing partner. I tend to wander a ways when I'm wading.

Nice! Just like on TV.
Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.
