Aucilla SLAM 11-12-08

Post by dolphinatic »

I had to work at the coast today, so I thought I would try to get some fishing in first  I met up with my buddy Raymond this morning at 6:30am and headed down to Aucilla. Stopped by JR's for some live scrimps before heading down to the river. We got to the ramp to find a very low tide....

Image

We launched and putted on out to the flats....

Nice Aucilla ROCK :o

Image

Image

We stopped of in spot #1 and fished in 3ft. of water reading 63 degrees. First fish in the boat was this monster  ....notice the size of the jig compared to the fish (about a 7" trout :smt005 )

Image

The bite was slow on topwater, but eventually picked up with jigs....

Image

The trout bite was relatively slow on everything we threw at them , so we decided to move in to fish some shallower spots along the grass. This would prove to be a good move  I tossed a live scrimp out the back of the boat along the grassline and set the rod down to grab another pole with a jig. As soon as I did, the pole with the scrimp tried to launch over the side :o I grabbed it and had this on the other end.....

Image

Then Raymond got a hit.....here he is fighting the red....

Image

Image

And another.....

Image

The reds just kept hitting the scrimps one after another. So we kept throwing it to them. Every fish boated was a keeper  With only 3 scrimp left, this monster grabbed one and hauled azz towards Econfina...a 26" red!!!!

Image

We ran out of scrimp after catching 8 keepers, so we kept our 2 and decided to go find the trout. We set up a drift in 4 ft. and the first cast landed a nice 19" trout! Over the next 1.5 hours, we would catch a 4 man limit of trout, throwing back numerous in the slot. With time getting away from us, we decided we had to go and left them biting :smt010 I hate it when that happens :x

It was a beautiful day on the water and we caught a ton of fish. They started biting really well once we reached high tide and stayed over the grass. Can't wait to do it again this weekend

Image

Image

TOTAL FOR THE DAY:

10 TROUT (16-23")
8 REDS (19-26") KEPT 2 (24" & 26")
1 BLUE

THE TROUT BIT THE BEST IN 3-4 FT. ON THE RISING TIDE. FAVORITE BAITS WERE SWA'S IN FIRETAIL & CHICKEN-ON-A-CHAIN. 5" WHITE FLUKES DID WELL ALSO (BIGGEST TROUT HIT THE FLUKE). TOPWATER ONLY YIELDED A FEW STRIKES WITH ALL FISH MISSING :smt009 REDS WERE CAUGHT ON JR's HAND-PICKED SCRIMPS  WATER TEMP WAS BETWEEN 61-64 DEGREES IN 2-5 FT.

Glad you got out there, Tom  Way to go on the reds... sure that 26" one gave you a fun fight :smt023

Great Trip! If you find anything usefull to do with that bluefish, let me know. I have tried them smoked, fried, made into fish dip, etc. and have not been able to eat them. Even my cat tries to cover them up.... :-?

I only grill them. I season them like I do trout and top 'em off with a squeezed lemon and tartar sauce :lick:

Still made it to work. We were off the water by 1:30pm, so that still gave me a few hours to high speed the gellcoat on a 20' Grady and make a few $$$ to boot

It was a good day
