Icky 11/29/08
My son and his family were in town for the holidays. Seems every time he comes down he wants to go fishin.
We left the house about 11 and got to the ramp at Icky just about the time there was enough water to launch. Got to the mouth of the river and there was an 18' center console, with an E-Tec on it,struggling to get out of the river. I was up on plane and knew better than to stop. I raised the jack plate and ran by him at about 20 mph. If it was one of you guys, I'm sorry for running by, but there was no stopping.
Anyway, we headed east to a creek. We got about 200 yards into the creek and caught a nice fat trout. At this point I'll tell you the tide was ripping in and the wind was blowing up the creek. We were drifting about 37 mph. On this drift, you get 1 shot at a hole. So I turned the boat around and nosed it up in the grass and deployed my 80 lb. thrust Minn Kota Power Pole (hey, it works). We sat on that hole for a while and caught 3 more fat trout. Then we proceeded on up the creek, probably 3/4 of a mile. We picked up 1 more trout and 1 red. We decided to go back to the mouth of the creek and try the first spot we stopped again. No joy. It's now close to 3 in the afternoon, and my son planned to go back home this evening. So we went just outside the creek. The wind was taking us back toward the mouth of the river. So I figured what the heck.We pulled out the corks because that was about all you could fish in the 20+ mph winds. Well, it payed off. We caught another 25 or so trout in 45 minutes. I finally told my son he needed to go back to the house and pack up if he was driving home, and headed to the ramp. We were back on the trailer by 4, and headed home.
We fished the afternoon and didn't get rained on at all. But we ran into the rain about the time we got to Highway 98. My wife told me it had rained at home most all day. I really felt bad for my son having to clean all those fish in the rain.
I always enjoy fishing with my son. It doesn't happen very often any more. We had a good day.

That was a heck off a trip with your son TC .

Re: Icky 11/29/08
Sounds like you had a good fishing trip and some time to spend with your son. Thanks for the report.

Nice way to spend the day with yor son
You’ve reached middle age when all you exercise is caution.

Nice. That's why we fish.

Actually listening to what other people say is worth the effort.

Great report! It was tough Sat between the wind and tide roaring in but the creek mouths were the ticket....as was Friday except it was much calmer and quite overcast.
Easy limits and put back a lot of quality fish...trout and reds. My anchor sure paid off!
Both days I slowed for boats fishing in river but it was every man for himself at the mouth. I was in the mudboat so it wasn't any problem for me
but there were boats chewing up the bottom in every direction.
