Christmas Eve fishing 2008

Post by WaltDawg »

NOAA said it was going to be windy and overcast, but Millertime and I were going to make the best of it. We decided that Hickory Mounds would give us the best cover, so we were set weather permitting. We got down to the impoundment a little after low tide and this is what was waiting for us.

Maybe a good sign, we would have to see. It was a little breezy while we were unloading, but not as bad as forecasted. We made our way out to the gulf, I was throwing a white She-Dog and Millertime jigging gulp and a tossing a gold spoon. Soon enough we both had trout in the cooler, skunk was off.

We both landed a few more, kept a few and let some swim for another day. The wind laid down, so we checked out a few more creeks with little success. Finally figured out why we hit a dry spell. He was actually heading to the same creek I was, so maybe I had the right idea.

We ditched Flipper and paddled to one of my favorite bars to look for reds. I immediately hook up with this guy throwing topwater.

Millertime rolls up while I was trying to get the treble hook out and first cast, bam, 27 incher on the spoon.

I get a couple misses on topwater while Millertime is busy with his red. Millertime is ready for his second cast, you guessed it, another fat red, but this one was a tiny 25 incher. We both had our limit of redfish, so we went looking for more trout. We both had a little room left in the cooler, but not for long.

We head back home right at high tide ready to clean some fish.
Little Millertime even gave her daddy the rock for bringing her a limit of reds and trout.

Total for the day, three reds and around 25 trout. Not a bad day and we were both back at home before the wifes even noticed we were gone.
