pinfish question
Off all week! Wanting to go after some grouper this week. Can a fellow still catch any pinfish on the flats with the temps warming up as it has over the last few days which would bring the water temps up ??? Curious, do they move in and out of the rivers and deep as the temps change ??? I know all the reports I have seen lately have been trollin, which I will try, but I sure do like putting a livey in rocks bout 40'-50' then hanging on.
Any help is appreciated !!!

Re: pinfish question
We consistently catch pinfish year round on the flats. Tie on a bell weight and 2 hooks spaced about 6 inches apart up the line. The weight will be on the bottom, 6 inches up 1 hook, 6 inches up from there another hook. I use squid as bait. drift the flats in anywhere from 3 to 6 foot of water. They will be there. Be patient. It will be slower than summer time, but they are there. The more grass the better. No bites, crank up nand move a few hundred yards and keep trying. And you are right, nothing beats a live pinfish dropped to the bottom for grouper.
You just can't fix stupid.

PinFishKing: What's the biggest pinfish you've ever heard of? One of my friends caught one that was 2 lbs. I thought it must be a record.

Re: pinfish question
I've switched laptops like three times this past year so let me see if i can locate it on one of my external hard drives. I found something that says that the one I saw wasn't even close to the world record of 3 lbs. 5 oz.!!! http://www.championbass.com/encyclopedia/pinfish.html Now that's a big pinfish.

Re: pinfish question
i stuck cheap cat food with fish from dollar general in mine a few times. I don't use it much though. I prefer cast netting or catching them.

Re: pinfish question
Tuna fish canned with vegetable oil, not spring water. It also works as an excellent chum.

Re: pinfish question
3 years back my friend caught one of those 2lb pinfish, therefore I know that the 2 lb pinfish exists.

Re: pinfish question
I don't think I ever caught one over a pound but I have caught some that have a mouthful of buck teeth. There have been some days when we had more pinfish in the livewell than we had grouper in the box. I never ate one but I am sure you can.
