New Years Day at the Warrior

Post by chugbug »

We headed out the "channel" around 0800 in my buddies 14' jon boat. There was barely enough water to float it with the offshore wind howling around 20 knots. It's been a long time since I've fished from such a craft and I was skeptical about making it back. Anyway we had to go all the way to the tripod before there was enough water to make a cast. Water was MUD from all of the wind.

We started there and let the wind push us out with the remain outgoing tide. Third cast I hooked a red around 25" and followed that with a 18 inch trout. Not bad considering the conditions. We weren't in a foot of water yet. The first drift yielded 1 more red and two trout. We came back around and redid the drift about 4 times with the same results mixing in a few shorts per drift. Ended up with 4 Reds, kept two and 7 fat trout to 20". All caught on Red fish Magic with red jig head.

On a side note: The last two trips the same guy has cut me off. White Xpress with red lettering in the rear. YOU sir need to take a fishing ethics class or just stop fishing.

Good luck to all in this New Year. :smt006
