Why, the bullet out of a 30/30 drops so fast, you would have to hold it a foot high at 100 yards.

I would bet more deer have been taken with a 30\30 than any other caliber in th world

.300 Savage is a great round, but the 30-30 just happened to outlast it, due in part to the Winchester 94. If Winchester had developed the .300 instead of Savage well....we'd be discussing things the other way around. Granted neither is a long distance round, but you can't beat a "dirty 30" for up close and personal. And yes, the 30-30 has claimed more deer than any other caliber. I'm one of those that follow the school of "slow and heavy beats the brush", for those types of conditions I hunt either .300 Savage, .35 Remington or .30-.30 win.
