Lanark Ramp temporarily closed

Post by Trusteria »

The Lanark ramp will be closed on Tuesday, February 10th and will re-open on Wednesday, Midday, February 11th. The Lanark Village Boat club is having the floating docks moved out and the areas under the docks and behind the ramp cleaned out as part of their maintenance plan. If you have any questions, you can call Mike Hopkins at 697-4600 or Mike Campbell at 545-7354.

Just talked to Mike and they are planning to use a backhoe to remove several feet of muck underneath the floating docks, as well as the rip rap off the end of the ramp. When I launched there yesterday just before the negative dead low I had to ease the boat off the trailer. A couple boaters have busted props on the debris, Mike told me. The "floating" docks were also sitting at an angle on the muck.

There was so little water at the end of the channel, I ended up poling out the last bit, even though my boat runs less than a foot with the engine trimmed up. Mike said since that is an unmarked (read unrecognized) channel, the Corps of Engineers will not let them dredge the channel any deeper.

Still, the improvements are certainly welcome and should only be a temporary inconvenience.
